SILKY WILLOW Salix sericea is a 2–12 ft tall shrub, which often forms thickets. The twig color varies from brown to purple to red to yellow. The leaves are whiteish-green with silky hairs during the growing season. Silky willow prefers soils that are anywhere from occasionally wet to standing water. It is highly adaptable to light conditions and can thrive in dappled, partial or full sun. It is a great species for erosion control and shoreline buffers. It is one of the more ornamental looking native willows, potentially earning it a place in the wet corner of your yard.
