PURPLE CHOKEBERRY Aronia x prunifolia This plant is a naturally occurring hybrid of Black chokeberry Aronia melanocarpa and Red chokeberry Aronia arbutifolia. This intermediate between the two species is a hardy native shrub valued for year-round interest and wildlife benefits. It produces showy white spring flowers, glossy dark green foliage, vivid red to purple fall color, and abundant deep purple berries that persist into winter. Adaptable to moist or dry soils and sun to partial shade, it supports birds and pollinators while fitting well into naturalized landscapes.
